Shielding or protecting against the electromagnetic energy ( EME ) emitted from nearby phone towers and other transmission devices has been carried out in both residential and commercial buildings by Ecolibria.
Shielding paint is applied to walls externally or internally depending on which is more practical and appropriate. The paint is grounded internally or externally by qualified electricians. Shielding fabric can be used to make curtains or blinds and is highly effective in protecting the the EMR from entering the windows which are the weakest points in the building. A slightly tinted window film is another option for shielding the windows. All materials used are the best currently available and most come from Germany. They are highly specialised and must be applied in conjunction with readings being taken otherwise there is a risk of potentially making the emr problem worse or not solving the problem.
The reason for this is that when you shield a particular part of the building the electromagnetic radiation or energy will now be deflected away from that area but may affect a different area. If small gaps are left in the shielding paint, film or fabric the emr exposure problem will not be resolved. The electromagnetic radiation behaves much like sunlight radiation in that if a small hole is left in a wall the electromagnetic radiation will come flooding through that hole in the same way as sunlight radiation would.
As Building Biologists we do not want electromagnetic radiation ( EMR ) exposure from pulsed signals to exceed 5 -10 microwatts per m2. This level is well below the Australian exposure standards based on thermal effects ( heating of body tissue ) but within much stricter international guidelines that consider biological health effects ( the effect on blood , cells , neurological functions etc.). Exposure standards vary according to the source and type of signal but this is simply used by way of example for easier understanding.
Shielding would be applied by Building Biologists to obtain these low exposure levels as no adverse health effects have been reported at these precautionary levels.

Phone Towers and EMR
Understanding phone towers and their associated potential health affects due to the elctromagnetic energy they emit can be difficult. This site offers simple explanations and solutions.
The easiest way to explain what is happening when you here about electromagnetic radiation from phone towers is that you are exposed to a form of electricity in the air. You cannot see or feel this electricity ( unless you are electrically sensitive ) and some people are more sensitive than others. This is easily explained in the same terms as some people being able to smoke and live well into their nineties and others develop cancer after a few years. As we all have different constitutiens we all react differently.

A SPATE of brain tumours among staff has forced RMIT University to close part of its business school and test for radiation emissions from rooftop phone towers. As staff reacted with shock, the university yesterday shut the top two floors of the Bourke Street building and ordered more than 100 employees to work from home for the next fortnight.
